Salzburg, Austria July 2-4, 2019
We took the train from Vienna to Salzburg on Monday, July 1 and walked to our hotel across the street from Mirabell Gardens (right). Our hotel was across the Salzach River from the main tourist areas of Salzburg. We spend a few days exploring the city and in search of the perfect biergarten. Mozart (or last least his image) was ubiquitous in Salzburg, but we did manage to find at least one nerdy-scientist landmark: the birthplace of Christian Doppler. Salzburg was just a delightful city.

We took the Original Sound of Music Tour on Tuesday July 2nd which was worth every penny (more on that below). Many of the pictures might be familiar to anyone who loves that movie.

We had two great meals in Salzburg. The biergarten in the picture above (top right corner) was the Stiegl-Keller brewery which was on the steep climb up to the fortress. Our last night's dinner was in a nice sidewalk cafe near the hotel. A few words about Darwin's... we stumbled across this place on our morning walk to the main city. I told the barkeep that we'd be back later that evening, but he told me not to be surprised if he had evolved into another species by then.
The Original Sound of Music Tour" was a lot of fun. The best way to describe it is a bus full of people (30 or so) motoring through the Austrian Alps singing along with Julie Andrews (only a recording). Most of the tour was to movie locations outside of Salzburg, including the church in Monsee where the wedding scene was filmed. The tour ended in the Mirabell Gardens where some of the Do-Re-Me scenes were filmed. Highly recommended!!
