Texas State Fiddle Competition
Hallettsville, Texas
April 25-27, 2008
We went to Hallettsvile, Texas over the weekend for the Texas State Fiddle Competition and Championship. Here are a couple of clips from the weekend.

Millionaire's Hoedown

Amazing Grace
...Emilie & Dad

We played Amazing Grace for the induction of Rex Guillentine (guitarist on the left in the picture at the left) into the Texas Fiddler's Hall of Fame. He has been there for Emilie at most competitions. Below is another picture of Rex, Charlotte, and Emilie taken after his induction ceremony.
At the left is a picture taken in front of the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas. This brewery makes some really great European style beers. Also in Shiner was St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. This is one of the many so-called Painted Churches built by Czech immigrants around 100 years ago. Here's a LINK to an online article about on the Czech painted churches. The picture below left is the altar of the Shiner church. We ended up going to mass on Sunday at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Dubina, Texas. The middle picture below is that church. It was built in 1911. Above is a picture of Lucy and Victoria on a sitting bench next to the church. Below right is the old cemetery behind the church.
